Stretch Break: Side Bend and Simple Chest Stretch

Today’s stretch break will get you out of your seat for a side bend and simple chest stretch. When I do this in live programs I often hear “Oh, that feels good.” Always remember to breathe! And remember, stretching is feel-good living.

Note: The Stretch Break series is designed for the average healthy adult. Please always consult a physician before starting any exercise/movement program. If you have back or shoulder pain/injury these stretches may not be right for you. If you are unsure, please check with your doctor before participating in these exercises

More Feel-Good Living: Continuing to speak up about heart disease
Fellow bloggers Joanna at Fitness and Spice and Sahar from Fat Fighter TV have put out a call for support. I received the following email today from Sahar.  Can you help speak up for heart disease?

On February 12, 2010 the American Heart Association and fitlosophy, inc. are asking bloggers around the globe to participate in Blog Your Heart Out Day! They’re asking us to SPEAK UP about the No. 1 killer of women — heart disease.  You can help by:

  • Encouraging your readers to join the Go Red For Women movement at the
  • Challenging your audience to find a community of support, make healthy changes to their diet and exercise, get a heart check up, and speak up to their doctors about having a lipo-protein blood screening.
  • Blogging how your life or someone you know has been impacted by heart disease

…and that’s a very good thing…just getting up and moving a bit! (and, it DOES feel good!)

  • Hilary

Hi Stacey – thanks that’s really helpful – and I’ll start doing these regularly during the day .. and add each short exercise in .. and it does feel good, as Lance says above! Have a good week – Hilary

  • Megan “JoyGirl!” Bord

I love it! I got up and did it, and the shoulder tip was spot-on. I found that the side stretch changed when I kept my shoulder down.

And that chest opener – you’re right: subtle but effective. Awesome! I love easy stuff like that.

If you’re taking requests, I’d love some effective, easy lower back stretches. I sit most of the day (bad, Megan! I know…) and my lower back just aches. Ugh…
    Thanks, Stacey!

    Hi Stacey

Always good to be reminded about and try these stretches – it feels soooo good!
    Thanks :)

Megan – Yes, I take requests! Thank you – lower back and hips were actually next, so right on target!

Evita – Soooo good, I like that, thank you!

  • Hilary

H Stacey that’s good news – great little thought for us bloggers all … a little exercise each and everyday while we work. So I’m looking forward to your lower back and hip one next week. Thanks – great – Hilary

  • Tess The Bold Life

Very good stretching and of course I had all the tendencies to do the wrong thing! I hope you do more of these!

  • Stacey Shipman

Hilary – it’s great for everyone to get a little exercise during the day! I look forward to creating more of these videos!

Karl – Every Wednesday (for now) there will be a new stretch break! Thanks, Karl, I’m glad you enjoy them.
